I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating is was to read that Haley Barbour and other week kneed republicans are “warning” conservatives that we are not supposed to expect our candidate to be “pure”. With all due respect to Gov. Barbour not only should we expect our candidate to be pure on conservative principles we should demand it! Many conservatives stayed home in 2008 because the reality was that there is almost no difference at all between John McCain and Barrack Hussein Obama.
To help illustrate some of Gov. Barbour’s absurd comments I’ll quote the following:
"In politics, purity is the enemy of victory,"
"We can’t expect our [presidential] candidate to be pure. Winning is about unity, not purity."
"The Republican Party is not in competition with the conservative movement," Priebus said with an almost plaintive tone. "The Republican Party is part of the conservative movement."

The last comment was particularly disturbing to me. I am sorry Governor but you are sorely mistaken, the Republican party ceased to be part of the conservative movement in January of 1989 when Ronald Reagan left office. There have at times been conservatives in positions of leadership in the republican party but the party as a unit has not been part of the conservative movement for over twenty years.
We don’t need the likes of Romney, Pawlenty, Christie, and Giuliani. We need strong leadership and these moderate republicans simply do not qualify. Romney likes to talk a good game but he again proved he’s unfit to be the GOP nominee with the following statement today on Fox and Friends regarding his health care law in Massachusetts “right for the people of Massachusetts,”
Not only is it not right for the people of Massachusetts but it’s been an abysmal failure for the taxpayers of Massachusetts. Romney back peddling a bit did admit the law wouldn’t work nationally. So it remains to be seen if the GOP truly has what it will take to defeat Obama in 2012. The reality is that with his record he should lose in a Jimmy Carter style landslide but Carter was running against Reagan. Do we have a Reagan to run against Obama in 2012?
The news is full of articles about potential candidates for the GOP nomination in 2012. The disturbing thing about this is that the field is filling up with wishy washy candidates that are cut from the John McCain, Mitt Romney mold that we were subjected to in 2008 and is the primary reason that Barrack Obama won the election.
We are heartened to see candidates like Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum, and Michelle Bachmann who generally are perceived as closer to the conservative mainstream than Romney, Christie, Giuliani, and Pawlenty. The problem is that the last group seems to be drawing the most media attention. This really is disturbing. Personally I would like to see Rick Perry, John Bolton, and John Thune in this mix as well. This would more heavily weight the field in a conservative fashion.
I am not completely certain there is a perfect conservative candidate in this field, declared or otherwise. It is unfortunate because after four years of Obama this country will need solid conservative leadership to get us out of the mess we’re in both domestically and internationally.
We sincerely hope that the conservative media can begin to steer all the candidates into a national dialog on where they stand on the important issues. Issues such as taxes, spending, illegal immigration, security, over regulation, reducing the federal workforce, among many others being of primary concern. It is vitally important that these are addressed by all the candidates either in the field now or still contemplating getting into the field. The voters in all states but particularly the early primary states need to know who is willing to lead this nation out of this dark period and those who simply want to follow…
Well my friends it has been a little over ten months since my last post. A lot has happened, and while I am not sure I can pinpoint for you exactly why I have taken a long break from my writing I think its time to get back to it and what better time to do so than with a story of our President shirking his constitutional duty…
President Obama is somewhat infamous for his use of a teleprompter. He seemingly can’t memorize speeches so his handlers feed him the words to say. Now it seems he can’t sign his name either. Congress recently passed a four year extension to the Patriot Act but because the current law was due to expire at midnight last Thursday and the President was in France it meant either the current law would expire temporarily or the President had to sign the bill into law with an autopen.
The autopen is typically used for signing letters and things of a less constitutional nature. Now while I wholeheartedly support the Patriot Act I now believe the new law is not legally enforceable because it has not been legally signed into law. For a bill to become law congress must pass it and the President must sign it, not his surrogates, not a machine, the President and the President alone.
We will now most likely be treated to ACLU running to court clamoring that the law isn’t legally in effect and they, as much as it pains me to say, have a legal point. Now as tough as I am on Obama about the act itself (using the autopen) the circumstances that have led us here are squarely on the shoulders of congress’ inability to pass the extension in a reasonable amount of time that would allow the President to have legally signed it before he left for Europe.
How much longer will we continue to kick this can down the road? When will congress make a commitment to our long term security and make this act and its early provisions that have since been stripped permanent?
The Justice Department today filed a federal lawsuit against the state of Arizona over the new state law with regard to how Arizona will deal with illegal immigrants. Now that the bait has been swallowed what happens next?
Yes the bait has been swallowed. Congrats to the state of Arizona though, the law is well written, well thought out and is probably succeeding in forcing some illegal immigrants to leave the state and as such is having at least its perceived desired effect. I suspect that the true reason though is to force the federal government to truly deal with the issue, something no one has been able to do in 40 years. It also has the side benefit of making the administration look weak on the issue of border security, which it is.
This was a brilliant move because all the State law does is restate the current federal law and allow the states police officers to inquire if someone is in the US legally and if not then take that person into custody. Something the justice department in 2002 noted in a memo stating that state police have “inherent power” to arrest undocumented immigrants.
Now the Obama Justice Department seeks to hide behind the Supremacy Clause in the constitution which states that federal laws take precedence over state laws, however this only applies when laws conflict, these laws don’t conflict. Nothing in the Supremacy Clause has any bearing on enforcement. Just because the federal government chooses to not enforce federal law doesn’t mean that states can’t enforce their laws when they are the same.
So a couple of things will likely happen with this lawsuit, the first happened today and the federal government took the bait and filed suit. We knew the libs couldn’t take this lying down and by doing this they now set in motion the rest of the sequence of events. We’ll have this play out in the courts for the next couple of years, maybe sooner, setting up a probable review by the Supreme Court in 2012.
The Supreme Court will most likely uphold what Arizona has done, again probably by a 5-4 vote with all of Obama’s favorite socialists voting for him and falling one vote short to the five men in black who stand between the liberal socialists and the constitution.
Then by allowing Arizona’s law to stand the floodgates will open and you will see many other states follow suit. It will be smaller states at first like Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, and others probably in the South. This will exacerbate the problem in states like California, Texas, and Florida because those states will be automatic safe havens for illegals. This of course makes the problems worse in those states because the crime and expense will double or triple at least.
This may finally force the federal government to take this problem seriously and work to secure the border. Yes that means fences, walls, border patrol agents, and better electronic surveillance.
So we thank the Obama Administration for putting their politics first and the people second. In this instance it works to the people’s advantage…
As the US economy goes, so goes the world economy is the old adage. Generally speaking that seems to be holding true. In the past we seventy plus years we’ve always taken the approach that the private sector has to grow its way out of a recession. It’s worked every time its been tried but we’ve taken a different approach this time. We seem to have opted for the approach that general government spending will get us out this recession. An approach that has never worked.
Another item of concern is that our liberal government no longer seems concerned with the deficit. When we’re needing to ramp up spending for defense of our country that’s bad for liberals and as such not acceptable. Many of us can remember the eighties when liberals cried that all this deficit spending on defense was a horrible debt to pass to future generations. Now we’re deficit spending on social programs, more unemployment benefits, hiring more government bureaucrats, etc, and that’s somehow ok.
We’re seeing unprecedented regulation from the FCC, EPA, FTC, etc. These things all cost business money, not just big business, but small businesses as well. Thus causing them to have to lay off workers, or refrain from hiring more workers. Later this year most Americans are headed for big tax hike because the President and Congress seem determined to let current tax cuts expire.
Now it is rare when we find a European government to contrast this to since most of them are more socialist than ours however Germany has taken an approach that mirrors our previous recession management strategy. They are cutting taxes, reducing regulation, and cutting the size of government. As a result of this approach Germany’s unemployment is falling, their economy is expanding faster than the US, all other European countries, and China.
If more countries followed Germanys lead recovery would come faster, if the US followed Germany and our own previous experience we could likely grow our way out of this recession by the next Presidential election. We won’t mind you, and that is likely why Obama will be discarded in 2012, relegated to scrap heap of worst Presidents next to Jimmy Carter…
As a member of the NRA and someone who is generally opposed to most of the gun laws oppressing the law abiding citizen I have to reach out and say thank you to Mayor Daley and his band of 45 rubberstamp aldermen. With them forcing a new law down the throats of Chicago residents that is clearly unconstitutional we’ll get the Supreme Court to clarify a few other issues.
First off the one gun per month portion of the law. Several cities and states have limits on the number of firearms one can purchase in a month. This is clearly a violation of the “shall not be infringed” part of the 2nd Amendment.
Next is the portion that states that people can have only one loaded firearm in the house and that any others must have trigger locks or be disassembled. I think much of this was addressed with the Heller case but clearly the court needs to state that jurisdictions can’t limit the number of firearms that a person may own and cannot tell the people how many may be loaded at a given time. This clearly infringes on the 2nd amendment rights of Chicagoans.
Next we have the provision that says you can’t have it on your porch, garage, or anywhere outside the home. This is an interesting provision of the law and it will be interesting to see if the justices throw this out from the perspective of 2nd amendments rights or private property rights as it clearly violates both.
Another area of interest will be the portions that deal with fees and registration. Now having registration is nothing new and many states do that already. That said this notion that you have to pay fees to exercise your rights under the constitution shouldn’t stand. Now on the subject of registration for those convicted of a gun related offense. This one is somewhat sticky, if you’re talking about those convicted of armed robbery, rape, murder, or other violent felony then it would probably pass constitutional muster. However this law doesn’t limit it to those offenses, it also includes non violent misdemeanors like carrying a concealed weapon that don’t prevent the person convicted from purchasing firearms in the future but would prevent them from keeping it loaded in their home. While most of the concealed carry restrictions at the state and local level are violations of the 2nd amendment it will be interesting to see how the court comes down on this one.
Clearly Chicago’s new restrictions violate the 2nd amendment and some elements probably violate the 14th amendment as well. While it will be another opportunity for the rights granted by the 2nd amendment to be more clearly defined via the court it is unfortunate that many more Chicagoans will die because their City government places a higher value on their power than the constitutional rights of its citizens.
It is truly amazing how far we have come in terms of leadership in this country. With this oil spill now going on 50+ days its interesting to compare how our two most recent presidents have handled crisis. While Obama wanders aimlessly around the gulf looking for someone’s ass to kick in his own backyard George W. Bush was kicking the Taliban’s ass up one side of Afghanistan and down the other within 50 days of September 11, 2001.
Obama runs around looking for a BP executive to lynch and while there is certainly enough blame to go around, including officials within the Department of the Interior, that’s not fixing the problem. Where has all this government regulation landed us? Our tax dollars are funding departments like the Interior and we still get oil washing up on beaches? This isn’t supposed to happen with all the government oversight, this isn’t supposed to happen while Obama is president. He cares, remember? These things are supposed to magically go away I thought.
Smelling blood in the water Mitt Romney goes around telling the media we need a leader not a politician. We couldn’t agree more, but we also need a leader and not an ambulance chasing opportunist like Romney.
So first of all I will state and Conservative Matters isn’t advocating, condoning, or inciting violence by anyone or any group.
So the headline on Drudge read “DEMS FEAR VIOLENT BACKLASH”. Really? They weren’t fearing the backlash when they thought it would be contained to the ballot box… Why, because they’ve stolen enough elections in the last 100 years that they have insulated themselves fairly well. They have career cronies now running nearly every federal department. Even when the voters wise up for a couple of years and vote them out of power the opposition never gets very far because the socialists run the government not the people…
But now things are changing, the people (or at least a vocal group of them) are standing up to the socialists in power and going with what may truly be the last patriotic stand in America. From here forward the path will be set, we’ll either be on an ever faster path to full blown communism culminating in very violent revolution somewhere down the road. Or we’ll listen to few patriots and begin to take back our government.
Liberals, Socialists, Communists, Democrats, only fear one thing and that is losing power. Losing power is no longer defined as who controls congress or the white house. They’ve seen that happen and have succeeded in losing that only temporarily. Their true power is in the courts that they control, the education system that they control, the media they control, the various government agencies that they control. These people secure socialism everyday.
The extreme far left leadership in congress and at the white house have only fear now. They believed that they were doing what the people wanted in spite of the fact that every poll was against them. Now they’ve rammed something down the throats of the people and they expect the people to just take it like they have for 80 years and just accept one more incremental step towards complete government control. The people seem to be standing up this time, only time will tell if they have the strength to stand up to the rest of this agenda.
For those of you that consider yourselves moderate Obama voters, for those of you that didn’t vote in 2008 because you didn’t like either candidate, and of those of you that now are part of the majority in most every poll that “disapprove” of Obama’s handling of the country, this is what you wanted. You are as much to blame, accessory’s, co-conspirators, etc. You are at least partially to blame for this mess, with your inability to make educated, rational decisions you have allowed the federal government to become one of the top five employers in the US. You have allowed the federal government to thwart the constitution at every turn.
We can only hope that many of you who have created this mess feel some of the pain perpetrated by those you have selected so that you may be educated and learn from this experience so that you not don’t make the same mistake again but help educate others to not make the same mistakes. In the mean time we’ll pray that there are still a few people strong enough to hold back the tides of socialism a little longer, but there are cracks in that dam and water is beginning to seep through….
It’s interesting to see the contrast between former President George W Bush and President Barrack Obama in the way that they handle crisis. After September 11, 2001 Bush squarely lays the blame at the feet of the terrorists who carried out the attack along with some blamed reserved for the bureaucracy of government.
President Obama lays the blame for this UNSUCCESSFUL terrorist attack not on the terrorists and counties that aided them. No he lays the blame on the intelligence community, the very people who are not allowed to defend themselves. He takes no blame himself, he pins no blame on the bureaucrats he has leading those intelligence agencies.
President Obama is proving constantly what conservatives knew before he was elected. He, and the Democratic Party, are only interested in power and are more concerned in bestowing rights on terrorists than protecting the American People.
